MBA Maritime, Transport and Logistics
Learning Objectives
In the competition between economic territories, EM Normandie is a legitimate element of local attractivity since it contributes to the development dynamics of its communities.
At a time when national technology and industrial policies are increasingly targeted towards definite areas, it was of paramount importance that EM Normandie offered a top level programme that was in sync with the expectations and needs of major regional companies.
Just as multinationals are re-focusing on their "core business", EM Normandie has decided to capitalize on those strengths which differentiate us from our competitors. Accordingly, the December 2008 Strategic Committee meeting defined an area of expertise that focused on "Logistics, Land-Sea-Risk" to extend the benefits derived from the experience with IPER and the School’s teaching innovations.
The transversal issues that it addresses, whether in matters of topic-based teaching or targeted applied research, offer the added advantage of being Operational Strategies in keeping with our times, as evidenced during the Grenelle Environmental and Maritime Roundtable1 Talks and the "Grand Paris"2 project discussions. Beyond this return to basics, this move offers close relevance with hot topics of the day while being linked to logistics: sustainable operations management, new technologies and energy conservation, security of exchanges, attractivity of major investment projects or port and urban developments.
Synthesis: Thematic Pattern for the Land-Maritime-Risk expertise area

The mainstay of this expertise area is the Maritime, Transport and Logistics MBA in order to allow:
- To meet the further training needs of high-potential executives in the major companies in Normandy (Normandy Logistics Network: global supply chain) and to be a ‘learning bridge’ between Upper and Lower Normandy;
- To accompany the Novalog competitivity pole by entering into partnerships with a number of research labs and institutes with a project management approach, with never before contemplated opportunities emerging from the transversal dimension;
- To be embedded into the Euro-Manche Arc by fostering partnerships with major English Channel, North & Baltic Sea Universities which face the same challenge as they attempt to maximize their seashores (Southampton, Antwerp, Bremen, Göteborg, Saint-Petersburg..);
- To develop the international dimension of participants by allowing them to attend three residential one-week seminars abroad, and to acquire a background in intercultural management thanks to the many IPER alumni currently at work in the major global ports or corridors , especially in Africa (8,000 graduates since 1977).
To this end, a dedicated steering committee (made up of ten or so representatives : CEOs, Institutions, Associations, Universities, ..) held 6 meetings in 2009 to produce a customized training programme, involving over 30 partnerships in the production of the foundation document.
The first cohort will be sponsored by the Mayor of Le Havre, Antoine Rufenacht and convene for their first seminar on 22 Sept 2010.
1 Grenelle de l’environnement : Grenelle Environmental Talks and their ensuing Grenelle 1 and Grenelle 2 Acts are bi-partisan attempts by the French State at shaping sound environmental governance.
2 Grand Paris project : Urban development plan which puts forward among other projectss the idea of a Paris-Rouen-Le Havre axis to structure the socio-economic future of River Seine Valley.
