MSc Tourism and Leisure Management
Learning Objectives
The Tourism and Leisure Management programme is designed to train future executives seeking to work in a rapidly-developing sector which requires people with management skills combined with expertise specific to the tourism and leisure market.
Increased competition, geopolitical uncertainties, the development of the Internet, all of these things call for skilled operational professionals who have the tools and knowledge to anticipate, create and mobilise their teams.
EM Normandie offers a recognised Master’s Degree, in partnership with the University of Brighton, whose award is accredited by the World Tourism Organization. This vocational degree features input from numerous professionals, residential seminars, an internship, an in-company field project and further business experiences.
This is a relationship-based programme, combining culture and experience which is, taught by international professors from the EM Normandie and the University of Brighton, favouring the exchange of ideas and mixed learning.
Who should apply ?
- BA Honours degree / Master 1 or equivalent,
- Bachelor degree or equivalent,
- Other applicants with non-relevant qualifications but with extensive industry experience will be considered on an individual basis.
Teaching format
Attendance Pattern
Full Time 15 months, starting September
- Semester 1 (September - January)
- Semester 2 (February - May)
- Semester 3 (June - December) :
- Work placement (5 months minimum)
- Dissertation or integrative business project
- The MSc is entirely taught in English, by faculty from the University of Brighton (UK), the Normandy Business School and professionals from the tourism and leisure industry.

Business skills
Additional courses in cooperation with professionals of the tourism industry: crisis management, marketing of a tourist destination, sustainable development, yield management, press review on the tourism and leisure business, cross-cultural management, sales techniques, presentation techniques…
- Field project: A 5-week field project dealing with service quality management in tourism, found and validated by the programme tutors for the students
- Field trips: Marrakech (Morocco), Paris (France), one week each.
Meetings with professionals of the tourism and leisure industry to know more about their business - 2 contests (2 weeks each): Team work on a real business issue given by a company
- 1 work placement. Minimum of 5 months: June - December
Dissertation or integrative business project
Students complete a 12,000 - 15,000-word Master-level dissertation or integrative business project

This double degree programme constitutes a response to the demands of tourism professionals in the area of higher education. Future graduates will be able to enter the sector as:
- Product manager in a tourist agency,
- Head of department in an event or conference management company,
- Head of marketing and communication in a theme park,
- Promotions officer for a local or regional government organisation,
- Director of a leisure facility,
- Tourism consultant,
- Infrastructure development manager in the tourism and leisure industry...

Admission procedure
- The admission decision is taken after close evaluation of the application file and a personal interview
- English language requirement : TOEFL CBT 230, or IBT 88 or TOEIC 790 or IELTS 6,5 overall and 6 in writing or equivalent, or degree obtained in an English-speaking institution (minimum of one year in an English speaking environment).
