Learning Objectives
General description of programmes
There are two undergraduate programmes provided at the Caen campus for foreign students.
These are:
- The Bachelor in European Business (Short title Euro BA)
- The Bachelor Management Europeén (Short title BME)
The Euro BA has existed since 2001 and accommodates 30-50 students per year. The programme is a business studies degree. It is a 'top-up' degree that runs over one academic year. Students must have completed two years of an undergraduate business programme and pass all subjects in the year in Caen before being awarded the degree certificate. All courses in this programme are delivered in English.
The BME has existed since 2004 and accommodates 15-25 students per year. The programme is a business studies degree. It is a 'top-up' degree that runs over one academic year. Students must have completed two years of an undergraduate business programme and pass all subjects in the year in Caen before being awarded the degree certificate. All courses in this programme are delivered in French.
Students are required to pass the 5 subjects in each semester, an introductory course, three business modules and a language course.

An outline of the modules contained in the programmes
The following module descriptions related to the Anglophone programme, the Euro BA. These modules will also be available in French to francophone students (with the exception of the modules in Hospitality management). It is possible for students to complete one semester in English followed by a second semester in French.

Indicative content of introductory courses:
Doing business in France
The course introduces the French perspective on business. It provides an overview of the French political system and the regulation of business.
Understanding Europe
This course provides an introduction to the development of the European Union. In addition it explores the role of EU institutions in economic development

Thus students are required to choose three business options per semester. The introductory courses and the language courses are compulsory.

Business courses available in the autumn semester 2011/2012:
Logistics
This course looks at the development of a logistics strategy for Europe. There is a particular emphasis on maritime transport, port management and warehousing/distribution centres.
Financial Reporting in Europe
The course examines different approaches to the regulation and practice of financial reporting in Europe. In particular it considers the problems faced by companies that must produce financial reports in more than one regulatory framework.
Business Start Up in Europe
The course examines the role of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in modern economies. In the context of Europe the course examines country specific approaches to encourage the creation and development of SMEs. These will include governmental help schemes, tax incentives, loans and grants. The course will require students to prepare, present and defend a business start up proposal in a European jurisdiction.
European HRM
This course compares and contrasts different approaches to the management of human resources. It deals with the problems of international recruitment and selection and also with issues such as performance management and labour relations.
Project/Bachelor Thesis
Students will research and produce a 5,000 word project on an aspect of European business. This course runs over two semesters. There will be an output required in each semester.
These are as follows:
- First semester – a detailed project outline and literature review
- Second semester – data analysis, discussion and conclusion
Students completing only one semester of the program will be required to research and outline a project in order to validate their semester.
Hospitality management 1
This is a general introductory course in tourism that deals with:
Rooms Management: rooms control systems, forecasting, budgeting, pricing.
Marketing Communications in Accommodation: communication strategies, organisation and management of communications functions and public relations.
The course examines aspects of hospitality management that are different than those covered in semester 2. Thus students attending for two semesters have the possibility to take either or both of these courses.
Business courses available in the spring semester 2011/2012:
Multicultural Management
This course focuses on the management of teams. It considers culture and team performance, intercultural communication and the coordination and control of multicultural teams.
European Law
This course is based around a case study that examines the negotiation of a joint venture agreement that is subject to the competition rules of the European Union. The case also deals with the protection of intellectual property and the use of licensing agreements.
International Business Development
The course introduces the environment of international business development. It considers the process of the internationalisation of an enterprise and the management of international operations.
International Accounting
This course looks at the issues of consolidation, foreign currency translation, segmental reporting and international auditing in a European context. There is a particular emphasis on the problems of introducing International accounting standards in Europe.
Project/Bachelor Thesis
Students will research and produce a 5,000 word project on an aspect of European business. This course runs over two semesters. There will be an output required in each semester.

Restaurant Management: food service management, corresponding accounting and financial management.
Resort and Leisure Management: operations management, staffing and recruitment issues, sales and marketing approaches.
The course examines aspects of hospitality management that are different than those covered in semester 1. Thus students attending for two semesters have the possibility to take either or both of these courses.
Degree / award
Bachelor en Management Européen en vue de la validation de 120 crédits ECTS ou équivalent à l’université d’origine et 60 crédits du programme BME.

Admission procedure
Etudiants affiliés à une université partenaire
Le programme est ouvert aux étudiants issus des universités partenaires de l’Ecole de Management de Normandie (accords double-diplôme ou semestre) ayant validé au moins une année d’études en commerce (soit minimum 60 crédits ECTS) et ayant un niveau de français suffisant pour suivre les cours en français ; certification de niveau obligatoire, soit une lettre du professeur de français, soit un test de compétences (par ex : TCF).
Etudiants indépendants
Le programme est ouvert aux étudiants indépendants ayant validé au moins deux années d’études en commerce (soit minimum 120 crédits ECTS), et ayant un niveau de français suffisant pour suivre les cours en français ; certification de niveau obligatoire, soit une lettre du professeur de français, soit un test de compétences (par ex : TCF).
